Playing?
Well, Kit got the game the other day and has been giving it interesting reviews. I've gone as far as downloading the game, but I haven't paid for it yet (damn you Kit).
Anyone else playing/played/thinking of playing still?
Cheers,
Ulf.

Re: Playing?
I'm actually really liking darkfall, and despite AV's issues initially, each patch they release does seem to be improving the game.
My only major gripe with it, is that its not very casual play friendly. Everything takes a huge amount of time to do (Travel included) and likewise takes a long time to see any real progress. Alas with my playing of maybe 5-7 hours a week tops... I don't see much. I'll also admit that I've been spoiled with UO and macroing to 7x afk in 2 days, while then being able to spend 10 minutes, recall or gate around to hot spots, do a patrol and log out. Alas the other day to do a raid took over a hour on mount constantly running to just reach the city to attack and it wasn't terribly far away, the world is just large and travel speed is slow.

Re: Playing?
I've been having fun with customer support... They are very quick to respond with useless information.
I started off trying to buy the game and running into problems paying, my billing info wouldn't update. After sending them an email with all of their "it could be these issues" answered and verified, they wrote back asking for the error message. The error message is oh-so helpful:
"Unable to update billing information."
So they augment it to Billing techs with this message:
> You need to enter your password right before you click the Update Billing Info button on the lower right side of the billing info page.
> I’ve also forwarded your inquiry to the Account and Billing Department. They will look into this issue and get back to you as soon as possible.
> I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
/sarcasm: I really wasn't sure what they had that "password" field on the page for, and why they were asking for me to enter it... but this email really cleared that up *rolls eyes*.
So I reply back:
"I did enter my password before submitting.
Thanks for forwarding it on."
I wait a few days and finally hear back from billing as they close the ticket:
> It appears that you haven't entered your billing information properly. You need to enter your password right before you click the Update Billing Info button on the lower right side of the billing info page.
So just to make sure I'm not a complete idiot, I redo my info exactly like always and get the same message. I then leave the password field blank and guess what? IT tells me I need to enter my password (weird how it has a different error message).
This was my response:
"Hello,
Thanks, I was wondering what that "password" field was for...
Now, lets pretend I have half a brain and actually did that... what would your response to the problem be then?
Cheers,"
So I guess that ends my attempt at joining DFO.

Re: Playing?
:/ Maybe try registering a new account, and redoing it. I picked up 2 accounts (1 for girlfriend) and didn't have any issues.

Re: Playing?
I guess they liked my response, because my ticket has been changed from "closed" to "escalated"... which is probably another word for "being ignored". As they just forwarded it from the billing department to the billing department for them to look at :/
""I have escalated this to our billing support team for investigation; they will look into this issue and respond to this ticket with their findings.""

Re: Playing?
Another day, another idiotic response from DFO support staff.
> We have manually reset your password and we believe that this should solve your problem. After few hours you will receive you’re an email with your new password.
I wonder if resetting my password will fix the problem? It must be a password problem, what else could it be... I mean, it's user error we're sure..
Ok, so I've had enough and now I'm just going to try and piss the hell out of them until they stop writing back.
Here's my response:
""
Hello,
Is there anyone at your company that has some level of competence? Sorry for getting rude, but the ticket keeps getting escalated (supposedly) and the next person tries the exact same thing as the previous. I can't believe that resetting my password didn't work when it isn't a password issue to begin with. Lets go through this together.
1) I enter my account name.
2) I enter my password and click login (oh look, it works.).
3) I click "Billing Info"
4) I enter my information (Payment Type: CC, Name on card: Brett Hartmann, Card Type: Visa, Card Number: ## (not giving you that)., CVV: 3 digits on back of card. Expiration Date: MM/YYYY,)
5) I enter my password and press update billing info.
6) I get the same error message as always.
If any of this confused you, the person before you, or the person you're going to "escalate" it too. Just let me know and I'll walk you through it a little slower.
Just because no one seems to understand this, if you enter in the wrong password or don't enter a password on this page, IT TELLS YOU.
Now, if the answer to this problem is simply "we're not competent enough to figure it out". Please let me know, and I'll stop bugging you. There are lots of games out there if you don't like money.
Cheers,
""
Stay tuned for much more DFO fun times...

Re: Playing?
And finally a response that didn't include "enter your password".
> We are sorry if there has been a misunderstanding about your issue. Please add your province in the State field under the PROFILE tab in the account management. Then you should be able to update your billing information, as this is a required field. Please make sure that you have not left any other required fields blank. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any other issues.
My province in my profile was my login name. Not sure how, or why.
All it took for them to change their idea was asking for someone competent (keep note of that for future issues).
Cheers,
Ulf.

Re: Playing?
Well DF just got a whole lot simpler, and I may indeed be quitting. They just patched it in so that you can jump while holding a arrow drawn, holding a spell, or casting a spell. Given that there are no stuns/snars/roots in the game the only way to maintain distance was basically spin jumping/firing this is now gone, and your stuck with meelle being critical and of course meelle damage is tied to weapon mastery, and thus you need to skill grind tons.
As a side effect of this it also eliminates the ability to jump strafe dodge spells/arrows, land then shoot, or even to have a arrow drawn and be chasing someone that jumps over a rock (since you can't jump

Re: Playing?
well, I'm addicted enough to keep playing for a while. Tough is an understatement compared to other MMOs. UO has nothing on this. And PKs run free :/
